About
Andréa Deroy, J.D. and LL.L.
Andréa Deroy is a fully bilingual legal professional with a strong commitment to advancing animal protection through the law. She obtained a bachelor's in history at New College of Florida in the United States. She then obtained both her J.D. and LL.L. degrees at the University of Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2025 after completing her placement with the Law Practice Program at the National Judicial Institute in Ottawa. Andréa’s experience in animal law began with the charitable non-profit organization the Quebec Animal Law Community (DAQ) where she worked closely with its founding president Nicolas Morello, lawyer, on legal research, drafting, and legal analysis. ​

2022: Played a key role in drafting DAQ’s Legal Guide on Animals in Rental Housing in Québec

2022-2023: Served as Vice President of External Affairs for the University of Ottawa’s Animal Justice Association where she organized public panels on ag-gag laws and legal reform and promoted animal law education through advocacy and outreach

2022-2025: Developed a rigorous legal methodology and deepened her understanding of animal welfare, tenancy law, and municipal regulation with DAQ

2025: Remains actively involved with DAQ where she contributes to legal initiatives, supports public education efforts promoting animal rights and welfare in Québec and beyond
